About Hywel Dda Rescue

Hywel Dda Rescue was officially created in November 2013 as a birthday present for Sue from her daughters, Danielle and Kirstie, and her son-in-law, Ben.  After a lot of time, effort, money and kindness invested by Sue it seemed the best way to grow and continue her desire to help animals in need.

Hywel Dda Rescue was named by our mum after Hywel Dda, Prince of Wales.  Hywel (also known as Howel the Good) ruled Wales in the 10th century and was remembered most of all for the laws he introduced to protect domestic cats.  Hywel realized the value of cats both domestically and agriculturally as pest controllers, and introduced a scale of prices for cats and kittens, as well as punishments for anyone caught killing or stealing a cat.  These prices varied from one to four pence according to the age and abilities of the cat.  Thanks to him, these new laws saved the lives and recognized the value of many cats and kittens.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Hywel Dda and your interest in the different ways we have changed animals' lives.  We are excited to continue this adventure and we are so proud of our mum for everything she has done.  She's an amazing, selfless and kindhearted woman!
