Mack (Mackenzie)
October 2013

Mack started her life behind a dumpster at a McDonald's restaurant.  Kirstie and Ben were driving home late one night and saw Mack in the bushes, where someone had been feeding her.  She was not tame enough to be caught by hand so they left her some extra food and continued home.  Kirstie and I went back to the drive-thru the following week, armed with a humane trap, some canned food, and determination.  After setting the trap and watching impatiently for over an hour, we noticed Macky about 20 feet away, and made the decision to risk scaring her away by moving the trap closer.  Luckily, our plan did not backfire and after a short trip inside the restaurant for (more) coffee, we returned to the car to find a scared little Mack inside the trap.

After a health check at the vet, Mack was ready for a home.  This little girl is too cute to resist, and I couldn't help but bring her home.  Although she's a little bit shy, she's getting more outgoing every day.  She loves to play and run around and is learning to socialize with my other cat and dogs.

Sophie & Scar (Trucker)
October 2013

Mum found out about some stray cats and kittens at a rest stop in South Carolina through a friend.  We decided to take a trip out there with the humane trap to see who we can find.  When we arrived, we walked around a little bit and found Sophie with a single kitten, Trucker.  Trucker's eyes were still closed, he was only around 10 days old.  Sophie was obviously barely more than a kitten herself and already had had her first litter.  We were able to trap Sophie and put her with her kitten in the cat carrier.
The kind people at the rest stop came out to see if we needed any help and told us about the other cats that lived at the rest stop.  They had already managed to catch a few litters of kittens and were working with other rescue agencies to find them homes.
Once we got Sophie and Trucker home, we settled them into a bedroom and mum took care of them for weeks until Trucker began to eat on his own.  At that point Sophie was spayed and released as she was still wild and unable to be rehomed.  She's sighted around the neighborhood regularly and is doing well.  Trucker was rehomed and renamed, and now spends his time playing and lounging around with his owners, Liz and her daughter Megan.

Beamer
September 2013

Mum found Beamer in the parking lot at Idlewild park while she was there walking her dogs.  He had obviously been wondering around for a few days as he was hungry, tired and wary.  In addition, he was covered in fleas and small cuts and scratches.  The park ranger had already called animal control but mum knew there was something special about this little man.
After he was picked up by Animal Control, mum kept an eye on him during his 3 day hold period, in case he was picked up by owners.  After 3 days he was available for adoption and mum and I went to the animal shelter to check on him.  When we got to the shelter his medical examination revealed that he had some small infected cuts on his face and had heartworm.  Mum was concerned that he would be euthanized and adopted him on the spot.  After being neutered he was ready to pick up, and was like a different dog.  I picked him up from the animal shelter around 5pm and brought him to mum's in the car.  He was so sweet and cuddly, not at all scared.
Due to his medical condition, he had to spend a few days in the vet's office.  While he was there, Dr Miles got quite attached to him and decided she wanted to keep him as her own.  She named him Beamer, and they lived happily ever after!

Diddy (Dittle Ditty)
May 2012
Diddy was the first kitten we welcomed to our family.  Well... actually, he kinda welcomed himself!! He showed up at the door step of my mum's house in May of 2012. We think at the time he was around 6 months.  He is now 2 years old and the first of many animals my mother has found homes for.

Where did he get his name from?? Good question!! if you ask my family, they would say it was because they called him "Little Kitty", which eventually turned into "Dittle Ditty", and then just Diddy.

Now, where did Diddy come from? Another good question (be patient, it can be a little confusing). Diddy was part of a whole family of "Kitties" (or "Diddies") that lived in a wooded area behind my mothers house and he has quite an extensive family. He was the bravest one as he didn't hesitate to adventure into the house, which matches his personality perfectly since he's a little dense and doesn't seem to worry about anything.

More information about the "Diddy family" to follow.
